Shirodhara is a classical Ayurvedic treatment in which sedating warm oil is poured in a continuous stream across the forehead. Shirodhara is an ancient therapeutic treatment using warm medicated oil applied to the third eye to promote a deep relaxation, unattainable by any other means to calm the mind and balance the nervous system. A steady stream of oil is eased onto the third eye, over the forehead, down the scalp and through the hair. This quiets the mind and encourages the subtle energies of the body to flow in an upward direction.
This therapy is meant for ‘Shodhana’- the eradication of the basic cause of the disease and it’s not only meant for elimination of disease-causing toxins but also to replenishing the tissues with nourishment. Shirodhara is although recommended in all body constitutions but particularly helpful in balancing to a subdosha of Vata called Prana Vata, this treatment directly impact on nervous system by calming, relaxing, energizing the mind and body.
